Overnight temperatures recently dipped into the mid to lower thirties. With that, people in the region have been turning on their natural gas furnaces for the first time in a long time.
Ameren Illinois encourages its customers to have furnace systems inspected by a professional HVAC technician to check for leaks or other potential hazards.
The company’s supervisor of public awareness Jake Dukett tells The Big Z what problems might be encountered this time of year.
Dukett also reminds people, “If you think you smell gas, act fast.”
He says to evacuate the building, go down the street, and call 911 or the Ameren natural gas hotline.
That number is 1-800-755-5000.
Ameren Illinois says natural gas leak call response times average about 22 minutes and are no longer than one hour.
